The European Patent Office has indicated that it intends to grant a broad patent to the University of California et al. for the revolutionary CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing technology. 

CRISPR-Cas9 allows very accurate editing of genes and has revolutionised the study and treatment of genetic diseases.

A patent has yet to be granted but the formal process is due to be completed very shortly. The application can be viewed here.
