The European Patent Office's annual report for 2014 shows an increase in patent application filings of 3.1% over the previous year. European organisations account for 35% of the filings with the US and Japan close behind.

Samsung filed 2541 European patent applications last year and the technical field for which most applications were filed is Medical technology.
